Intel on Wednesday unveiled an update to its software tools suite for Mac OS X with optimizations for its C++ and Fortran compilers as well as Intel Threading Building Blocks, Intel Math Kernel Libraries, and Intel Performance Primitives. The optimizations, designed specifically for Leopard and Xcode 3.0, aim to provide further support for Mac developers to take full advantage of Intel multicore processors.

Intel's C++ compiler is priced at $450 or $600 for the standard or pro editions, while the company's Fortran compiler is available for $550 or $700 in standard or pro editions, respectively. Intel Integrated Performance Primitives for Mac OS X are priced at $200, and the company's Math Kernel Library sells for $400.

Intel's compilers contain auto-parallelizing capabilities, libraries, and Threading Building Blocks for Mac OS X. Leopard is also fully optimized for multicore environments with new developer APIs and tools for developing multithreaded applications, according to the chip-maker.
