Brother color MFC lasers

Brother on Tuesday unveiled its first line of digital color laser copier-printers, with the introduction of the DCP-9040CN and DCP-9045CDN. Targeted at small offices and workgroups, the DCP-9000 series uses the same single-pass print engine that is resident in the HL-4000 and MFC-9000 series devices that were introduced earlier this year. The new line of all-in-ones feature up to 21 pages-per-minute print speeds in both color and monochrome, producing up to 2400 x 600 DPI prints. The units connect through Ethernet and USB 2.0, and the upper model features compatibility with USB Direct Interface electronics, such as USB flash drives and PictBridge-enabled cameras. Brother is selling the DCP-9040CN for $600, while the DCP-9045CDN will be available for $700 in December.

PCL6 and BR-Script3 emulation is built in to both models - BR-Script3 is compatible with PostScript 3. The scanners built in to the units will process images of up to 19200 x 19200 DPI (interpolated), and can process reductions and enlargements from 25- to 400-percent, at one-percent increments.

The DCP-9040CN features 64MB of RAM and a 2-line LCD display, while the 9045 has 128MB and has a larger 5-line display. Both units can take 300 pages in the paper tray, and use a multipage automatic document feeder for the scanner: 35 pages for the 9040 and 50 for the 9045. In addition, the 9045 also has a built-in duplexer that functions for prints, copies or scans, and can scan legal-sized pages. The upper model also has the option for a 500-sheet letter/legal tray.
