Mary J Blige iTunes ad

Apple has unveiled a new iPod + iTunes ad, featuring Mary J. Blige's Work That, while the company's Web marketing tactics are becoming increasingly aggressive, with a new banner ad targeting Windows Vista. The iTunes ad features a mostly-silhouetted Blige blowing a handful of sparkles from her palm, creating the golden gossamer environment for the commercial. Amber light shines from the background, where floral patterns are intricately produced, while backup dancers join Blige as she dances.

Apple's silhouette ads for its various music services have earned the company a lot of renown, having won several EFFIE gold awards and the Grand Prize Kelly Award. The advertisements have featured such music industry moguls as Paul McCartney, Eminem, and U2.

Many readers have noted that C-Net's news.com, PCmag.com and Engadget are featuring a new "Get a Mac" ad that consists of a horizontal and a vertical banner along the top and right side of the page. After activating the ad by clicking on it, usual Mac and PC characters – performed by Justin Long and John Hodgeman, respectively – appear in the right hand banner, with the two discussing the large "Don't give up on Vista" sign in the top banner. When PC presses the large red button in his hands, it prompts the sign to alternate "give up" and "on Vista" as he mashes it in a panic.

Don't those silhouette ads look really dated now with the 'Classic' iPod? Guess they'll have to think of something else when they're finally extinct and you can only buy silver, black and coloured iPods...

I'd agree that they need to take the iPod ads in a new direction. They've been using the silhouette ads for many years and they need something to grab peoples attention.

That "Get a Mac" is one of the funniest I've seen lately. I hope it makes it onto TV. Although I never saw "on Vista" light up as the text of the article says.

There's another (better one) that also lights up "on Vista".

Those Vista prank ads: What were they thinking? They redefine silliness?
