I thought this was about the Zune 2.0, rather than the remaindered Zune 1.0. At the price, it's also a giveaway curio, and says little to nothing about MS's desire to dethrown the iPod (other than the only way they can ship these things is at a huge loss.)

A check of the Amazon site shows that the 1st Gen Zune undercuts the price of the iPod Nano by a dollar and four cents ($133.95 vs $134.99) to become the best seller. Now, the reality check. Amazon also offers used versions of both with the Zune starting at $89 and the iPod going used for $134.99 - the same as new. So, where does the public perceive value?

The iPods are unavailable because they sold out, the new Zunes are unavailable because no marketer in their right mind will buy them until the old stock is gone, and Monkey boy is buying all the old Zunes to make way to sell the new Zunes.

Yep, that'll about do it. Give Apple another 24 hours to fill the pipe again and all versions of iPods will be surpassing it very zoon.

I wonder how many more people will return it when they discover that it's not Mac compatible.

Amazon.com top seller fluctuates constantly, and doesn't account for all Zune and iPod models.

Right now Amazon.com's new e-book product - Kindle - is "trumping" the Zune and the iPod. But considering how ugly it is and its mono-chromatic display, and its $400 price tag - it's probably safe to assume that it isn't really outselling iPods or Zunes. Who knows what criteria Amazon uses to identify "top" sellers.

Everyone does realize this is the clearing of the of the Zune 1 debacle at a huge discount. These are the channel stuffed Zune 1's that went out the door to get the 1 million units.

to me it's obvious, MS is playing the lose-a-little now, gain-a-lot later card. In their perspective, this trick had done wonders as in the case of IE.

Kindle is selling the top-seller on Amazon because it's an Amazon product that may not be available anywhere else.

Unlike the iPod, the Zune is a product that you'd wanna buy from the internet, it's not really worth a trip to a computer store or circuit-city. The iPod is the perfect excuse to go visit an Apple store in your favorite mall.

Anyway, it's funny to see how since the Zune is selling better, it's making mac bloggers break a sweat or live in denial.

The same how MS play their game to compete head to head with Sony Playstation. At the end, XBOX won and its sold units outnumbered Sony Playstation.

At $134 Microsoft must lose money on every sale. On the other hand, they are saving on land fill costs. It is good for Apple no matter what; it represents some healthy competition as it would be very bad indeed if they became a monopoly, and buyers of 1st gen Zunes will quickly figure out that there is a very good reason why they are so cheap.

When you heavily discount something, sure enough lots of people will buy it. I wonder how many people are going to be disappointed with their new zunes.

First, Microsoft is trying to clean house so that it can ramp up product on the new Zunes. However, it is sitting on an inventory of old Zunes. So, it is lowering the price.

Second, who really buys an iPod from Amazon? I am sure there are some people, but I only buy from Apple because if something goes wrong I want to deal with Apple.

terrin, Apple doesn't care where you buy your iPod. The only thing I can think of that might go wrong where it might matter where you bought it, is in the shipping. Even then it really doesn't matter unless you're dealing with a disreputable online store.

I think this is a good thing for iPod user and the would be iPod user in general. I want an iPod for a long time but things that prevent me from buying it because I want the FM radio and recording function built-in. Most of the MP3 player have these functions but I don't understand why iPod don't have them ? How hard it gonna be to include these functions ? I want all the other players to grap 60% of the market share. So, Apple will finally realize and include these function to respond to the decline market share. You might ask why don't I buy other brands ? It because I love Apple products, they're just work. I'm using PC right now and I installed Windows XP for more than 10 times already but the reason that I use PC because I want Apple computer that doesn't exist, a midrange Mac. Macpro is too good and too expensive for me, iMac and Mac mini are too less expandable for me. I want a Mac that can put more than one harddisk in it, can change the graphic card, have more than 2 RAM slots. The price can be $300 more expensive than comparable specs PC, I still want to buy it but too bad Apple don't have this type of product. Anyone wishing for the same type of Mac as me ?
