HTC Touch cracks 1 million

The HTC Touch, much touted as a Windows Mobile rival to Apple's iPhone, has at last broken the one-million sales barrier, the company says. The figure was reached at the end of October, and includes sales going back five months to the beginning of June, the phone's launch date in the United Kingdom. Availability has since broadened to include Asia, North America and the rest of Europe; HTC CEO Peter Chou says he expects to hit sales of 1.5 to 1.8 million by the end of the year.

Although sales of the Touch have been dramatic compared to those of most cellphones, they pale next to those of the iPhone, which reached the one million mark in early September and continues to do well. It has been aided by new markets in Germany and the UK, and Apple CEO Steve Jobs says he hopes to sell 10 million iPhones during 2008. This would give a single brand control over one percent of the total cellphone market. [via DigiTimes]

MS is probably watching to see whether HTC is worth a buyout.

I'm sure they're scribbling on their notepad which features are worth to copy so they can make "just good enough" devices for the PC users, like what they did with the new Zunes and used to do with their OS.
