Gluon's ColorBreaker, Slugger for InDesign

GLUON today delivered two new plugins for InDesign CS2/CS3 users. The company has released a version of ColorBreaker that works with InDesign, the company's automated color mark-up that was originally released for QuarkXPress nearly 10 years ago. ColorBreaker quickly analyzes a document and places easy-to-read tags on each item or arrows pointing from neatly arranged tags at the side. The “magic arrows” will automatically reconnect to the tag, easily customizing the look, as each tag is moved. The tags contain all the color and font usage information necessary, providing vital information to make sure that documents are set up consistently and correctly.

In addition, GLUON says the tags provide important information to prepress houses, including FPO tags where needed, CMYK breakdowns of all colors used, and spot color usage. Item numbers offer a useful reference that enable users in different locations to discuss the same document. ColorBreaker, the company said, identifies potential problems such as the improper use of RGB or spot colors. ColorBreaker for InDesign for CS2/CS3 is $200.

Slugger ID offers document info for InDesign

GLUON on Monday also released a completely re-engineered version of Slugger ID that works with InDesign CS2/CS3: Slugs are a critical part of most publishing workflows where important information about the document is compactly printed in the margins of the document. GLUON has included for no extra charge, a stand-alone application called Universal Slug Designer that will customize all aspects of slugs for InDesign, Quark and eventually Illustrator and beyond. Users, the company said, can customize slug sizes, fonts, fields, colors, locations, and behavior. Once a slug design file has been created in the utility, it can be distributed on the network to all Quark and InDesign users so that users can share the same slug designs.

Many improvements have been made to the Slugger ID, including enhanced performance, stability and feature parity between the two systems. Particular attention, Gluon said, has been paid to color and font information lists and to more accurately reflecting the page-by-page content. Additionally, the color chip technology has been added to match the Quark Slugger. GLUON's Slugger ID for InDesign CS2/CS3 is $200.
