Small Tree planning 2G 10Gb PCIe adapter
Small Tree Communications is planning to launch its second generation 10Gb Ethernet PCIe adapter (site not updated) for Apple's Intel-based Mac desktop and servers running Mac OS X Leopard. The cards, which are available in single-port and dual-port configurations, are designed to provide greater flexibility for end users, according to the company. The optical 10GbE single-port and multi-port cards are priced at $2,250 and $3,350, respectively.
"Greater network bandwidth is critical in today's business climate, where time is money, and meeting tight deadlines is critical," said Corky Seeber, president of Small Tree Communications. "The debut of our second generation 10GbE solution is a continuation of Small Tree's commitment to providing Mac users cutting edge technology for streamlining information workflow, and maximizing network performance."
Technical specifications were unavailable, but Small Tree's single port PCI-X 10Gb Ethernet Optical Adapter supports PCI-Express x8 fire wire-speed performance, a firmware-controlled offload engine, and serves as a low-profile add-in card.
"We see the continuing demand for increasing bandwidth that maximizes Intel's multi-core processors operation from large data centers to small design houses," said Tom Swinford, general Manager of Small Tree's Intel LAN Access Division. "With Small Tree's custom drivers for the Intel 10Gigabit XF SR Server Adapters, Intel Networking products can support a wide variety of I/O intensive applications, such as virtualization, high definition image processing and data mining."
