M-Audio unveils vintage synth emulator/mixer

M-Audio today released Virtual String Machine, an artificial instrument developed by partner GForce, which is designed to emulate the tones of over a dozen vintage string instruments. Virtual String Machine can be used as a standalone application in conjunction with a MIDI controller, or it can be used as a plugin for GarageBand, Logic, Cubase, Protools and a host of other audio editing applications. M-Audio is selling Virtual String Machine for $150, available through its website and international retailers.

GForce has programmed Virtual String machine with the likes of the Freeman String Symphonizer, the Roland RS202, the Polymoog, and the Korg PE2000, to name but a few. “The Virtual String Machine goes beyond merely bringing the seminal sounds of the 1970’s back to life," says Adam Castillo, marketing director for M-Audio. "It combines them into new sonic treats the world has never heard before."

Virtual String Machine comes with over 3200 samples extracted from the various instruments that it emulates. In addition to providing over 500 presets, GForce has designed the software to layer any two sample sets, allowing users to create many different filters and sounds.
