Review: HTC Touch no iPhone-beater

Even though enthusiasts knew the phone as the Elf, the HTC Touch emerged as a surprise when it was announced this spring in part because of its less-than-subtle touchscreen interface changes and naming scheme. For many, these were a sign that HTC was hoping to ride the wave of iPhone publicity. If so, it worked: the device sold more than 800,000 units during its first three months on sale. That it should not be ignored is beyond doubt; whether it really offers the same qualities as the iPhone, however, is another matter. cheap knockoff wannabe

A good number of knockoff Chanel, Louis Vuitton are sold every year, but does not mean the knockoff are anywhere near the quality of the coveted original.

For example, regarding the knockoff, "Frustratingly, adding or replacing memory to the Touch is also unnecessarily difficult... Users simply will not be swapping multiple cards with this phone, which negates some of the point of removable storage."

It has almost no internal storage, so the 1gb card is usually the limit.

"HTC's device is only usable with the stock earbuds and can either receive power or output audio -- not both"

You cannot charge and use the head set at the same time.

"Just basic navigation can be somewhat difficult" etc.

What a joke.

Rogers Wireless

Early November Rogers Wireless announced they released several new models for Q4. One of them being the HTC Touch. The GSM version is a tri-band model that supports EDGE. Unfortunately Rogers chose to release this model instead of the HTC Touch Dual which supports HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) and video call camera. Since neither Telus or Bell in Canada can't support video conferencing as lacking HSPA network capability I was suprized to see Rogers not release the Touch Dual.
