Office 2008 sneak peek

Microsoft has posted another "sneak peek" at new functionality in the forhcoming Office 2008 for Mac OS X. The latest gallery details new themes, templates and styles. Mac BU officials said "Dozens of new Template designs help users make a statement and get their work noticed. Modern, suite-wide Themes and Styles also help users consistently apply a professional look and feel to their documents and presentations." The Mac BU has also announced that an update to the public beta of Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client for Mac 2.0 will be available later today.

In this release, the File menu has been redesigned to allow for the launch of multiple Remote Desktop Connection sessions from the menu. In addition, File Based Connection Management is included: Remote Desktop Connection now manages all connection settings using connection files. There's also enhanced support for Vista Network Level Authentication. This method offers security enhancements that can help to protect the remote computer from hackers and malicious software. A new feature dubbed auto-reconnect allows the Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac to automatically reconnect to the Windows-based computer if the network connection to the remote session is broken. Finally, the new RDC supports wide-screen displays.

    Ugh

All anyone wants from these idiots is info on what improvements have been made to the Exchange connectivity over Entourage 2004.

But what do they keep pushing on us with these 'sneak peeks'? "Look! It's shiny and colorful and superflous! Isn't it great?!?"

How about some real work on the guts of the programme, more styles and templates don't address the underlying problems of instability and flacky compatibility with Windows

    Word is Nice

I like to hate Microsoft as much as the next Mac user. However, I used the beta of Office 2008 and I am impressed. Word is much nicer then the current version. I really do not care about any of the other applications although I checked them out as well and they are nicely improved.

The beta was buggy as heck, but I am willing to give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt there.

    1000s of employees

Microsoft must have 1000s of employees who are in the "Useless c*** We Can Add To Our Software and Make it Bloated, Harder to Use, And Not Do What Users Really Want" department. (Know as the department of UCWCATOSAMIBHTUANDWURW.)

Really, Id be embarrassed to be a developer for them.

    Doofuses.

I guess that this will be native, right? But the question is - will it have 64 bit extensions?

    Imitation of Copy

The tool Bars look almost like the iWork Suite. That would explain why it's taking so long to finish it. They are not through copying iWork08 yet! I agree with some of the comments above. Focussing on enterprise functionality should have been the "Prime Directive"....h*** I can accomplish all this "cutesy stuff" already with both iWork 06 and iWork08. Then again the MSFT BU is comprised of Apple personel; that might be an explanation the "look alike"...
