Aperture 1.5.6, Backup 3.1.2 for Leopard

updated 08:20 pm EDT, Fri October 26, 2007

Leopard software updates

Apple today released updates for two of its applications, Aperture 1.5.6 and Backup 3.1.2. While the main purpose of the updates is to provide compatibility with Leopard, Aperture has received several bug fixes related to accessing system- and application-specific resources. Both updates are available through Apple's website, and the Software Update application.

Backup to v3.1.2 updates Apple's own backup and archival tool available to .Mac users as part of its subscription service. The utility that lets you archive data to DVD/CDS/drives or online .Mac storage. Backup 3.1.2 is "highly recommended" for all users, includes reliability improvements as well as improves compatibility with Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard."

Aperture 1.5.6, available through Apple's website, addresses issues related to performance, improves overall stability, and supports compatibility with Mac OS X v10.5. Specifically, Apple said that it resolves some minor compatibility issues with iPhoto 7.1, which organizes images by Event rather than Roll. In addition, it addresses issues related to metadata and sort order when sharing previews with iLife Media Browser.

Other Improvements include reliability of queries based on Import Session and reliability when recovering an Aperture Library from a Vault.

Early Friday, FileMaker announced that although its database creation and management software will "generally run" on Leopard, there are two known issues which the company said it will fix with an update, targeted for release on November 19th. The first issue mentioned is that the Instant Web Publishing Feature no longer works. Secondly, every language in which Filemaker has been localized will only work if the System Preferences' International pane is set to the same language region. More information is available on FileMaker's Leopard compatibility page.
