PGI compilers for Mac
The Portland Group today delivered Release 7.1 to its suite of Fortran, C, and C++ compilers, and introduced a new Mac OS version for Intel-based Macs. Widely used in the high-performance computing sector, the latest update solidifies performance on multiprocessor computers and introduces 64-bit optimizations. Version 7.1 also offers several "under-the-hood" optimizations, which delivers a 10 percent improved performance from previous versions, according to the company. Pricing is available from The Portland Group's website, depending on license and platform requirements.
The compilers are optimized to run in a cluster and offer developers the ability to micromanage multiprocessor-based machines within the cluster. Companies that rely on server clusters -- research centers, weather and ocean modeling services, seismic research laboratories --- will see improved stability from the update, in addition to the aforementioned speed increase.
