Samsung U410 clamshell reaches Telus

updated 02:50 pm EDT, Fri October 19, 2007

Samsung U410 at Telus

Telus on Friday catered to those who need inexpensive Internet access on their phones by listing the Samsung U410 as an option for its phone network. Although it runs on the legacy 1XRTT data network rather than EVDO, the phone can still access Windows Live instant messaging, full e-mail accounts, and typical mobile web browsing. The phone is also rare in its class for including a VGA camera, assisted GPS, and Bluetooth with stereo audio as well as typical hands-free calling with a headset.

The Canadian cell provider encourages users to sign up for a long-term agreement and offers the U410 for free with a three-year plan while increasing the price as high as $200 for a contract-free device.

    not inexpensive

What part of this "inexpensive internet access" is inexpensive? Not the data plan that goes with it! Telus charges $25 for just 1.5 MB of data. If you go over that paltry limit, you could be paying hundreds of dollars per month in overage fees. Bell is the same, and Rogers is even worse.

If you really want inexpensive internet access, look at Virgin Mobile instead. They offer UNLIMITED data access for $10/mo. with their new Samsung m510 phone.
