Sony 80GB photo album

Sony has announced the the HDMS-S1D Digital Photo Album, a compact device that features an 80GB hard drive and connects to a high definition television via HDMI to display images. Photos can be moved to the device via flash memory card formats, CD, DVD, USB or Ethernet and organized by date, special occasions such as birthdays and travel (using pre-selected icons), or different photo albums. Also included is the photo managing x-Pict Story HD software, which creates slideshows directly on the device. Up to five background songs can be placed. The software also allows for connection to a compatible printer.

The HDMS-S1D Digital Photo Album also uses Sony's face detection technology to locate faces in photographs and adjusts the slideshow transitions around the location of faces. The x-ScrapBook application also uses face detection and event-clustering technology to group based on common traits like photos of children, or pictures grouped by events such as a party or vacation. The HDMS-S1D Digital Photo Album will be available in October for about $400.
