Moto Z6 Unlock and Alltel

Motorola today launched its ROKR Z6 slider in two forms to capture more users in the US than just those using it as the RIZR Z6tv with Verizon. The Alltel ROKR Z6m expands the music phone with both looks and software. In addition to a tattoo-like back shell and keypad as well as green lighting, Alltel's model adds support for XM Radio Mobile, giving access to 20 of the satellite radio provider's stations over the Internet. The carrier's unique Celltop interface is also available for checking news, weather, and other quick info in widget-like cells.

The 2-megapixel camera, native 3.5mm headphone jack, and support for AAC/MP3/WMA music (including Windows Media Player 11 sync) remain the same as for Motorola's reference version of the phone. Sales of the Alltel Z6m begin today and have the phone selling for $130 with a two-year contract and rebate or $330 without the agreement; XM Radio access is free for a one-week sample but otherwise costs $8 per month beyond an existing phone plan.

The device's original manufacturer has also begun offering the ROKR Z6 unlocked, a version of the phone for GSM phone networks that is not tied to any one carrier. Users can install a SIM card from AT&T, T-Mobile, or an international provider and expect the same level of features, including EDGE Internet access where coverage allows. The American cellphone maker adds the incentive of a bundled 1GB microSD card to provide significant storage out of the box. It ships now for $280.
