Nokia announces N810

With early information having leaked just hours prior, Nokia has officially announced the N810, its new flagship Internet tablet. The greatest change is the addition of a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, allowing users to forego typing via the touchscreen, though this option should still be present. The direction pad has also been moved to the left side of the slide-out panel, making room on the front for a VGA camera that enables Gizmo video calling. VoIP calls can be made via Skype.

Another major revision is the inclusion of a GPS receiver and accompanying map software, allowing users to locate their position and find various points-of-interest. To use the 810 as a true personal navigator however, users must upgrade to Wayfinder, which provides turn-by-turn directions with voice.

The screen on the tablet measures 4.13 inches, and has a native resolution of 800x480; despite this potential power drain, the battery should be able to handle up to 45 hours of music, stored on an optional 10GB memory card. Internet connectivity meanwhile is still limited to Wi-Fi, while non-VoIP calls must be made through a Bluetooth-linked phone.

To compensate for this somewhat Nokia has forged a deal with Boingo Mobile, giving worldwide Wi-Fi hotspot access to various N-series devices for $8 per month. The N810 is expected to launch in mid-November at a price of $479.

    N810 Phone(y)

This N810 looks sooo cool. It just needs the GSM phone. I guess the Big Cigar guys killed that off.

Too bad, such a cool toy.
