In brief: Unlocked iPhones are on sale in France, Lynda.com is offering 3ds Max training, the price of Infovox's iVox has been permanently dropped, Pasteboard 7 gets QuarkXpress 7 support, and Quark is giving away products as part of a new promotion ... A firm is reportedly selling unlocked iPhones in France for the price of 999 euros according to a report in LeMonde. The manager of the store selling the phone has claimed that the offer is "entirely legal" and is provided with a France-compliant warranty. "He said, however, that it is highly inadvisable to perform an update via the iTunes software, at risk of (breaking) the iPhone." The store, Leclerc of Frouard, which operates franchises, has gotten the batch of iPhones via an unnamed American wholesaler.


Lynda.com 3ds Max training

lynda.com has announced the release of a 3ds Max 9 modeling training package. The package teaches techniques for creating video games, corporate logos, mechanical assemblies, or architectural visualizations. Instructor Steve Nelle explains how to model all kinds of objects with the an array of modeling tools. Exercise files accompany the tutorials. It contains over 13 hours of video content. The course is available immediately online, and separate CD-ROM version of 3ds Max 9 Modeling is planned later this month. Subscriptions to the lynda.com Online Training Library start at $25 a month.


Infovox iVox pricing permanently dropped

Acapela Group and AssistiveWare have permanently lowered the price of the Infovox iVox voices, which can be used with virtually any speech using application on Mac OS X. The software includes naturally sounding voices that can be used to listen to documents, create personal podcasts and to help struggling readers. Voices are already available for the following
languages: American English, British English, Finnish, French,
Canadian French, German, Italian, Danish, Dutch, Flemish, Spanish,
American Spanish, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Norwegian and
Swedish. All of these voices are Universal Binary and compatible with
Mac OS X 10.3.9 and higher (including Mac OS X 10.5 aka Leopard). All languages except the Scandinavian ones are now available for $100.

Pasteboard 7 gets QuarkXpress 7 support

Markzware has released Pasteboard 7 for the Mac. This new release supports QuarkXPress 7 and is now Universal Binary. Pasteboard is an XTension that changes the width and height of the QuarkXPress pasteboard. It will allow one to adjust by value as well as by percentage, giving a wider range of options than that within the QuarkXPress application. Pasteboard 7 is priced at $30.

Quark offering free products

Macworld UK reports that Quark has launched its new 'Love' campaign, under which customers who upgrade or purchase new full copies of QuarkXPress 7 will also receive the following products free: Quark Interactive Designer for outputting SWF (Flash) files, Quark XPert Tools Pro and Markzware's ID2Q for converting InDesign files (including the new CS3 format) to QuarkXPress 7 projects.
