Ascent Ti price, pics

Previously seen only in FCC filings made public in July, official photos and details have been released for Vertu's ultra-luxurious Ascent Ti phone. Its name derives from a titanium chassis, but the phone also has sapphire face layer and a cowhide back, the latter being available in black, red or brown. Performance features include quad-band GSM and unspecified 3G, along with a three-megapixel camera; the biggest addition however is "Vertu Fortress," the ability to sync notes, contacts and calendars with a server located in an English bunker.

The cost of the phone, which is due later this month, is expected to be $6,628. This will bring certain perks for its rich buyers however, such as Fortress, and Vertu's standard "concierge" button, used to call for 24-hour service. Meanwhile, Bond-movie composer David Arnold has been paid to compose three special ringtones. Car-themed wallpapers round out the package. [via Crave]

    Fortress? Bunker?

Do ultra-rich people somehow bypass the inherent insecurity of mobile devices? Does the thing self-destruct via remote control when the user reports it as stolen? Is the Bluetooth and cell network reception somehow more secure if the data is housed in a bunker? The physical location of the data doesn't really matter if you're toting the thing around the airport, does it? Money is wasted on the rich. $6628 / $399 = 16.6 iPhones...
