JamanTV: Movie rentals on Apple TV

updated 01:50 pm EDT, Mon October 1, 2007

Apple TV movie rentals

JamanTV is the name of a soon-to-debut service that will make it possible to rent movies for playback through the Apple TV. The service will consist of two components: the first is the Jaman Player for your PC/Mac and JamanTV player for your Apple TV. The computer-based player is akin to iTunes -- it manages downloaded movies and syncs with external devices. The second is the JamanTV player for the Apple TV, which allows the device to sync with the host computer. AppleTVHacks has a walk-through of the installation process, which is extremely simple on the Mac/PC side, and a little more involved on the Apple TV side. [link updated]

"Once the Apple TV was added, the player immediately started the syncing process to transfer the downloaded movies to the Apple TV. It couldn't be any easier than this. Depending on your network speed, each movie should take only a few minutes to be transferred. However, some movies might take up a few gigabytes of storage. My network runs on Airport Extreme (802.11n) so transferring a few gigabytes of movies did not take long at all. On the other hand, downloading a movie from the service via the Internet took about 40 minutes to an hour."

    Good effort...

but I didn't recognise any of the titles, I take it they're arthouse movies. Will have to investigate further.

"It couldn't get any easier..." - I suppose not but iTunes does the same. Nothing new here.

Um, iTunes doesn't do the same. You can't rent movies in iTunes.
