Refurb 4GB iPhone $299

Apple is still offering its reconditioned 4GB iPhone as a clearance item for $299 after discontinuing the model in favor of the larger 8GB edition. The company is also offering refurbished 30-inch Apple Cinema Displays for $1,499, and still touts the liquid crystal screen as the largest high-resolution display ever created. Apple's 4GB iPhone features its popular multi-touch display with a full QWERTY soft keyboard and its own Safari Web browser. The smartphone features email access, and offers built-in WiFi as well as Bluetooth functionality. Owners of 4GB iPhones can store up to 1,000 songs on the handset, and the battery accommodates up to eight hours of talk time as well as 250 hours of standby time. A 2.0-megapixel camera is built into the back of the 4.8-ounce phone, which ships with Apple earphones and includes a built-in microphone. The company's refurbished 30-inch Apple Cinema Display is also available, featuring a flat panel screen with 2560x1600 pixel resolution.

    One wonders

about the life expectancy on those 30" cinema displays. I could actually see myself shelling out that much if I could get 7-10 years out of it at minimum.

    Life Expectancy....

...of an LCD should be about 60,000 hours or around 25-30 years.

I'd bet you'd get more out of it than the $2000 22" CRT's I used to own.

    refurb vs new

So the refurb 4gb price is the same as what they were selling new ones for?

My bro has the 30", and it's about 3 years old now (he got it right when they came out, so however old that makes it), so he's about half way to your minimum.

    story wrong.

MacNN has the story wrong; there's no 4 GB iPhone in the refurb section of the store when I looked [9:23 am Eastern], but it's still in the clearance section of the store for $299.

Just because its not there at that time doesn't mean it wasn't there. The refurb store changes all the time
