Buford, GA Apple Store
Apple today announced the opening of its fourth retail store in Georgia. Set to open in Buford, Georgia on September 22nd at 10am, the store will be the second outside of Atlanta and will offer a hands-on-experience with the new iPod touch and other recently released iPods as well the new aluminum iMacs. Earlier in the summer, Apple opened the Apple Store Perimeter, located in the Perimeter Mall in Atlanta to complement its other Lenox Square store (also in Atlanta). The company also has a store in Alpharetta, GA: Apple Store North Point.
Apple also appears to be exploring other locations in the state of Georgia as well. One report indicates that Apple retail execs are in negotiations with a trio of developers who are building a 35-story condo/retail project along the Midtown Mile in the capital city of Atlanta. According to the report, the 1010 Midtown development will include 443 luxury condos, and 38,000 square-feet of ground floor retail space that could open in Spring 2009.
Separately, Apple has also re-submitted revised architectural designs for a Portland store at 437 N.W. 23rd Street address, about one year after an unsuccessful attempt to win approval, according to ifoapplestore.
"Apple has substituted ebony-faced brick for gray stone and has added a canopy to the design of the 5,000 square-foot, 1.5-story building on the corner of 23rd and Glisan Street, all intended to better blend in with the neighborhood. Apple proposes to demolish the current, historically insignificant building, but must win special city approvals for the new building because it’s located within the Alphabet Historic District."
