Wx, iPhoneWx upgrades

Two versions of the Wx weather application, which tracks multiple weather factors across the United States, have received significant updates. The main software has been upgraded to v5.1, and now includes a feature called "Pro Forecast," which provides a more detailed seven-day outlook. Included in this view is the latest National Weather Service model, combining 11 variables including temperature, cloud cover, precipitation and wind speed/direction. Wx is native for Intel and PowerPC Macs, and requires Mac OS X 10.4; the full software costs $17, but is available as a limited trial for 30 days.

Connected to Wx 5 but available as a separate trial is iPhoneWx, a mobile version. Users connect to a custom Safari bookmark exported by Wx, which allows users to view up to 20 maps, and conditions for 20 specific locations. Data is pre-cached and only updated periodically to avoid long waits or battery drain. The trial is limited to two locations and two maps.
