Report: 3G/GPS iPhone due in Q1 of 2008

In the wake of reportedly confirmed iPhone for Europe deals and ahead of tomorrow's press event in the UK, Apple will begin shipping a new iPhone model with faster 3G support early next year while boosting output for the fourth quarter of this year, according to sources cited by TheStreet.com. The new cellular handset -- which could include global positioning capability for navigation services -- will be available some time in the first quarter of 2008, bringing high-speed internet anywhere and satisfying one of the two largest complaints about Apple's smartphone. The Cupertino-based company slashed pricing on its iPhone models on September 6th, addressing the second major concern of critics. Apple's current iPhone model uses AT&T's EDGE network, which offers internet speeds only slightly faster than a dialup connection until the phone comes within range of an accessible WiFi network. Rumors are also circulating that Apple is planning to use Broadcom's Global Locate unit to supply GPS chips in future models. Sources reportedly familiar with Apple's plans say the company is also using TriQuint to produce power amplification chips for the new iPhone.

A separate report indicates that Apple may also be boosting its production numbers for the holiday quarter. Apple was targeting 1.7 million iPhones in its September quarter and 1.54 in the December quarter, the source told TheStreet.com, but now is increasing the numbers for its internal December quarter estimates.

"A successful price cut has cleared the way for Apple to boost iPhone production," TheStreet.com has learned. "A source familiar with the latest info says Apple is raising its manufacturing target for the quarter ending Dec. 31."

Your wrong (at least for the US). I predict January. Apple already slashed prices. This will move hardware through the holidays. After the buy for other people season is over and people are shopping for themselves again, Apple will move hardware in the slow season by introducing 3G. There is next to no chance Apple will update its two month old hardware before the January Mac Expo. That will just piss off the early adopters, which Apple clearly doesn't want to do twice. However, people expect companies to update their product after the holidays. I do not know about 3G, but if an iPhone hardware refresh is coming, it will be in January.

Your is a possessive pronoun as in "your shoes are untied."

You're is a contraction for "you are" as in "you are wrong".

There's a massive resource called internet to supplement your sorry english education. You might consider looking things up once in a while as it takes roughly 20 seconds to make yourself look more intelligent than you probably are.

Here's a pearl of a site to get you started:

I cannot believe you corrected his English, when I count no less than 2 dangling participles and you ended a sentence with a predisposition. A proposition at the end of the sentence is not only a dramatical error, but is quite the fake peas considering the subject of your diatribe.

When it comes out with a 3G radio, I'll buy one. I really want iChat and Bluetooth syncing/call alerts (which Address Book has built-in -- why can't the iPhone use it?) as well, but that's something a firmware update can add.

Welcome to the planet - not everyone that graces you with their presence is a native English speaker - get off your grammar hi-horse - this is not an "English grammar Site" in case you hadn't noticed.

Yes - this forum is bases in the states - but you have people from all over the planet reading, contributing etc.. and English won't be their first language...

I'm not sure if this is the case with the poster that you were referring to - but ....

Anyhow - I'm sure I am wasting my time here on this...

I love the face that someone with the name of "Goat Poop" is trying to bust the chops of anyone about making themselves look intelligent..

Hilarious --- BTW - that testudo guy is fantastic - I love the fact that someone with some other opinions is in here mixing thins up a bit - no, I don't agree with everything he says - (hell, I don't agree with everything my mother says - doesn't mean I can't engage in an intelligent discussion with them... - keep it up.

Regardless, these writers have the same access to the internet, a Mac Dictionary which is literally a keystroke away and a URL away as referenced by Bennco. Way to go! Bennco ;-))))) Has anyone been paying attention to some of these journalists and US leaders lately (i.e.) G.W.Bush? Mixing plural and singular....YUCH!
