Briefly: Unreleased iPhone firmware shown

In brief: A new, unreleased version of the iPhone firmware is displayed on Apple's $100 rebate page, Apple Pro Training Series: Soundtrack Pro 2 has been released, a designer puts forth some iPod touch Billboard ad designs, MacMusic has announced plans for a 10th anniversary party, and Aqua Data Studio plans to offer free Open Source Software Developer Licenses ... Apple's page detailing the $100 store credit for early iPhone buyers displays an iPhone that shows firmware version 1.1.1, which has not yet been released. The image seems to be an indication of a shortly forthcoming update. The $100 credit -- which Apple CEO Steve Jobs promised early adopters after receiving "hundreds of emails" from upset customers -- is available only to iPhone owners who have activated the device with AT&T. Early adopters who purchased iPhones without a service plan from AT&T will not be able to cash in on Apple's $100 in-store credit.

Apple Pro Training Series: Soundtrack Pro 2

Peachpit has announced Apple Pro Training Series: Soundtrack Pro 2 by Martin Sitter, an Apple-authorized guide to the digital audio tool designed specifically for Final Cut Pro editors. Sitter discusses the essential tasks of audio restoration and clean up, including instruction on arranging, editing, and mixing multi-track audio projects; recording and editing voiceovers and narration; and experimenting with advanced mixing and effects.

iPod touch Billboard Ads

Peter Weisz, a freelance designer has created some proposed billboard design concepts promoting Apple’s new iPod touch. Weisz says "Here are the campaign objectives used in designing these ads: Concise message. Drivers typically have less than three seconds to notice and process billboard content. The ads are instantly identifiable as coming from Apple and making the copy familiar, fun and easy to digest. Promoting the new name. Using the rebus format makes each ad into something of a puzzle or game with the solution always the same: “touch.” Love of Music. Leveraging the single biggest factor accounting for the iPod’s phenomenal success: the user’s love of music. Depicting music icons builds upon this strong fundamental connection."

MacMusic 10th anniversary party

MacMusic is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a party on September 27th. The party will take place during the Apple Expo show in Paris (Sept 25-29). For this occasion, MacMusic has partnered with Apple, Digidesign, M-Audio and U-TV, in order to organize a huge party that will take place at the famous Reservoir club, in Paris. It should be pretty hot as they expect over 600 MacMusicians and VIPs from the local european and international music scene. Entry is free and the first 400 participants will be offered two tight long drinks.

Aqua Data Studio offers free Open Source Software Developer Licenses

AquaFold Inc is formalizing its licensing program for supporting Open Source Software developers by providing no-cost user licenses for its Aqua Data Studio database integrated development environment. The plan will provide no-cost Aqua Data Studio licenses to developers of Open Source Software. Aqua Data Studio offers a single integrated development environment for all major relational databases including Oracle, Sybase, DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server and Informix.

If you look at the picture of the iPhone firmware, it's obviously a mock-up. The serial number is listed as AB12345ABC1 and the IMEI is 12 123456 123456 1. C'mon people, research your sources.

And it borders on stupidity to even insinuate that what is shown is an "unreleased", but supposedly "existing somewhere deep in the interior of Apple Inc." when the current firmware is 1.0.2.

Cuz OBVIOUSLY Apple would be working on an update that is one major revision and one minor revision away (1.0.2 -> 1.1.0 -> 1.1.1), if not a full 9 revisions in the future (1.0.2 -> 1.0.3 ... 1.0.9 -> 1.1.0 -> 1.1.1).

The picture of the General Settings screen shown with the new firmware version shows entries for the 1.1.1 firmware shows new categories for "Home Button" and "International". A guess - these might indicate support for the enhanced home button function in the iPod touch and international support for the rumored announcements in Europe.
