Sony VAIO NR Leaked

Sony is prepping a notebook it hopes will overturn conventional wisdom about the design of basic systems, according to momentarily leaked images from a German website. The 15.4-inch VAIO NR will be considerably thinner than the N series and should also have tapered edges that create a smoother designer look than the outgoing model. Every system will also be based on Intel's Santa Rosa platform regardless of performance and should take advantage of improved GMA X3100 integrated graphics; ExpressCard/34, Memory Stick, and SD card readers will also be standard.

The leaked details point to at least two models that should be available in Germany and may arrive in North America with similar features. The NR11Z/S would ship with a 1.5GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB of memory, a 200GB hard disk, and a silver trim. A second primary model, the NR11Z/T, would primarily improve the system with a 2GHz processor and switch colors to a more unique wenge brown. Release dates and pricing are vague, though speculation points to a worldwide launch in the fall with systems starting at the same $900 as the present VAIO N. [via NotebookReview]
