Epson PictureMates

Epson on Tuesday afternoon launched a pair of photo printers skewed towards speed. The PictureMate Dash and PictureMate Zoom incorporate new processing and printing tricks that generate a 4-by-6 inch, full-quality print in 37 seconds, significantly less than the prior models and better than any rival, according to Epson. Either is also claimed as ideal for editing photos taken directly from the camera with a 3.6-inch LCD that takes on cropping, minor color or red-eye corrections, and slideshows. The Zoom also adds a rare DVD/CD-RW combo drive to the mix that can archive photos directly to CDs or print from a CD or DVD with an existing photo library.

The Dash and Zoom both support most any camera through a multi-format card reader in addition to a USB connection for transfers using PictBridge. Epson is delivering the DVD-equipped Zoom today for $200 and is doing the same for its driveless but otherwise equal Dash counterpart at a price of $100.
