WebEx PCNow on iPhone
WebEx has launched an iPhone-compatible version of its PCNow remote access service, which lets users access files from their desktop PC, as well as Outlook e-mail, contacts and schedules. Users can also forward, delete or reply to messages, and these changes will be reflected on the desktop. The iPhone version of the service re-arranges content for easier viewing on the device, and is designed to mimic the desktop experience. PCNow costs $12 a month for use with two PCs, but users can also sign up for a 30-day free trial.

VNC

I recall reading that someone got the VNC client (web-based) to access their PC from their iPhone, but it was not ready or wasn't able to access a Mac.
Has this been resolved?
Free is good.

The web-version of VNC is PC only (might have a Unix version, not sure) and a work-in-progress. As opposed to the current web-based connection, which uses a Java client (and thus can't work on the iPhone), the version you mentioned works alot like Google Maps, an AJAX/Web 2.0 web application that sends screen updates via little jpg images.
