DLO OpenFM for iPhone
DLO has debuted OpenFM, an iPhone Web application that actively polls radio station locations to determine the clearest FM frequencies available for FM transmitters. Searchable by zipcode or city/state, OpenFM pulls its results in real-time from an active database, not a flat file, which the company says ensures the most accurate and up-to-date information available. The tool can work with the various FM transmitter offerings from FLO, including the TransDock and others. The OpenFM application actively searches an FCC-provided database of licensed FM broadcasters and, using algorithms, matches that information against known locations of radio towers to determine the highest quality FM frequencies to use. Results are returned ranked in three categories, from "Best Bet" to "Good" to "OK" quality. The company says it will be rolling out an OpenFM widget for both Mac and Windows platforms in the coming weeks.

Still doesn't address the biggest issue w/ any and all FM transmitters for iPhone... how to use them w/out turning Airplane Mode on. Having to choose between listening to music or being able to call/receive phone calls is no better than having a separate iPhone and iPod to use.

It asks me, but I never turn that mode on - its not REQUIRED to do so at all.
Try it with Airplane mode off and see if you get interference, if so, get an iPod!

I think that's his point. No use in using a transmitter with iPhone if it turns the phone features off.
And yes, you can use it w/ airplane mode off but you SHOULD NOT! The interference is highly irritating and can damage your car speakers.
