Apple laptop sales soar
Apple share prices rocketed upward when the company began shipping its iPhone in late June, but a study suggesting that the computer maker now sells more than one in six laptops in the U.S. may serve to remind industry watchers that iPhones are only part of the bigger picture. Apple reported record breaking Mac sales in late July when disclosing the financial results of its third quarter. The company's primary source of revenue remains its Macintosh computers -- of which Apple shipped a whopping 1.76 million in a three-month period for an all-time quarterly record and a 33 percent jump over the same time a year prior. Apple grew at four times the rate of the estimated industry standard, selling more than 1.1 million portables for almost $1.6 billion in revenue. The survey from NPD Group says MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks accounted for 17.6 percent of June's unit sales, representing a jump of more than 3 percent over Apple's May figures when the company sold 14.3 percent of all U.S. portables, according to PCWorld.

it's amazing the roller coaster AAPL has been on lately... up $5 one day, down $5 the next, up $5 the following... too bad I'm not a day trader, I could make a lot of money on the swings in AAPL...
