iPhone horror story
In brief: An iPhone owner who was billed nearly $5,000 in data roaming charges is telling the tale online, Apple co-founder Steve 'Woz' Wozniak is reportedly dating comedian Kathy Griffin, AT&T has announced the iPhone is in stock at all of its U.S. stores, and GizMac today began its "Replace Your Case" trade-in promo. An iPhone owner who received a bill from AT&T for more than $5,000 says he apparently racked up the charges by using the carrier's EDGE network internationally. AT&T charged the customer $0.2 cents per kilobyte of data transferred while overseas, amounting to a total cost of $4,953.37. The shocked customer notes that surfing to a 1,000KB Web page cost him a whopping $20.
Woz dating Kathy Griffin?
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is allegedly dating comedian Kathy Griffin, according to one report. The engineer met the comic star after watching her stand-up show in July. Griffin is divorced, while Woz has three children and has been married three times prior. Griffin is well known for dating celebrities to obtain publicity, however, and announced such intentions earlier this year.
iPhone stock, GizMac promo
AT&T has announced that Apple's iPhone is in stock at its stores across the U.S., offering the slogan "Touching is believing".... GizMac today launched its "Replace Your Case" trade-in promotion, offering iPod owners a discount for trading in competitor's case to receive a valid Titan Clear iPod case until August 31st.

He is not just an idiot... He is a re-e-a-a-l IDIOT. Why do we have to read those so-called "horror" stories on a Macintosh News Network website?

Reminds me of that guy who called to ask what the roaming rates were and was told "Point zero two cents" when he got the bill he found he was charged $.02. There was a nice long (recorded) telephone conversation where he couldn't find a single person at the company who know the difference between the $.02 he was charged and the the $.0002 he was quoted.

Who cares

Who really cares that (a) Woz is dating some lame comic (or, in fact, dating anyone), and (b) that some guy takes his iPhone abroad without realizing what it was going to cost him.
Of course, if Apple just opened the phone to all providers, he could've just bought a cheap SIM in Europe or wherever and not had any issue at all.

"$0.2 cents" isn't a valid amount.
Which is it, $0.2 (i.e., 20 cents), $0.02 (2 cents) or 0.2 cents (two-tenths of a penny).
Yes, this reaks of that previous Verizon s**** up where people don't know the difference between 0.02 cents and 0.02 dollars.

ATT apologists!
08/17, 03:48pm reply
I didn't know this site had turned from Apple apologists to ATT apologists!
Seriously 2 cents/kbyte is ludicrous! It should be made very clear [even to the point of HEY THIS WILL COST ABOUT $5 to load Apple.com] before it lets you browse on roaming.
But then again, I live in Canada. That is about normal for data rates here :(

They are not apologists. Whether the rate is expensive or not, it was not a secret.

AT&T Got me to
08/17, 05:39pm reply
I just got my bill from AT&T and have a similar (but far from as bad) of a problem. I went just across the border into Mexico for the morning and got billed over $90 in data charges. I was never told I was being charged a much higher rate (I barely used my phone) - nor did I authorize it. I love my iPhone but am pretty fed up with the poor service from AT&T - from the most dropped calls I've ever had, to the poorest reception, to this billing issue. AT&T needs to get its act together when dealing with Apple people - we expect quality, service and reliability.
