TechExpo, DEFCON free

In brief: We review the Fujitsu ScanSnap s500m, fmDataguard is available to all at DevCon pricing, the TechExpo will be free for one day during Photoshop World, DEFCON will be free to play for a long weekend, and SmileOnMyMac is offering a back-to-school discount ... We've posted a review of the Fujitsu ScanSnap s500m, a compact and solid document scanner that makes it just as easy to scan and store documents as it is to store photos in iPhoto or songs in iTunes. The ScanSnap connects via a provided USB cable and uses Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard and the ScanSnap Manager software, which ship on separate CDs. ScanSnap Manager requires Mac OS X 10.2 and a PowerPC G4 800MHz or higher with a PowerPC G5 1.6 GHz or higher recommended. The fact that this scanner comes with a full version of Acrobat 7.0 Standard makes it a great value.

    Fujitsu scanner

It's too bad your reviews don't provide for comments.

I've have the Fujitsu 500M scanner since December. It's AMAZING. A seriously useful tool. I scan all my received paperwork, handwritten notes, etc. It's so nice to have them on my laptop everywhere I go, even if many are on file back at the office.

I'd tried several flatbed scanners with ADF attachments prior to this. They were awful - slow and jammed often. The 500M is meant for this work and does a great job. And I don't say that about much.

    ab-fab scanner

I love this scanner so much. It reminds me of my old PaperPort scanner, which sadly broke down constantly and is in a landfill somewhere. I use it to scan all of the documents that I would *like* to keep but simply don't have room to store. The only stuff I hold onto now is anything the taxman might be interested in. I use the fabulous ReceiptWallet and DocumentWallet applications to store my scans.

The scanner is FAST. The duplexing is fabulous. I find myself deleting a lot of useless stuff, like the backs of bills and receipts, using the key command to delete pages from Acrobat is a must for efficiency and file size reduction.
