Briefly: clay iPhone; MacToSchool; iMac review

In brief: PC Magazine reviews the new iMac, a back-to-school Mac bundle includes WriteRoom, Mori and several other education-related apps, a clay iPhone has been sculpted out of Sculpey Premo, and the game Slingo Quest is now available for purchase ... PC Magazine has posted a review of the new Santa Rosa-based iMac. Pros: "Sleeker and thinner than the previous iMac. More recyclable materials. Energy Star 4.0. Still the all-in-one standard. Same reduced number of cables. Powerful, even in Windows Vista with Boot Camp. Up to Core 2 Extreme and 1TB drive available. [...] Good price." Cons: "No TV tuner option. Glossy screen is a bit reflective, no option for antiglare. Not quite full HD resolution. Wireless keyboard and mouse are extra—and there are better mice than the Mighty Mouse."

MacToSchool bundles $300 in software for $50

Several Mac-oriented software developers have come together to offer a collection of their programs in a back-to-school bundle called MacToSchool. Priced at $50, the bundle claims to include $300 worth educational and scholarly programs and is available from now until mid-September. Among the included applications are the full-screen word processor WriteRoom; Mori, the digital notebook; Horizon for financial-modeling, Pencils Down, for educators and others creating tests; and the periodic table oriented AtomicMac and units-converter iUnit for reference purposes.

Clay iPhone sculpted

User vaughn235 has posted a flickr set of images depicting an iPhone created in Sculpey Premo modeling clay "for a prank on (his) wife." There's the iPhone box, and the iPhone itself, complete with application icons, appropriate buttons and other details. The time displayed on the clay phone is, of course, 9:42 AM.

Slingo Quest released

Macgametore.com has announced availability of Slingo Quest on its web site. The game was developed Funkitron. "Slingo Quest takes your favorite Slingo game the next level and introduces brand new fun ways to play! Get Super Slingos on the multi-card games. Check out the Bounce Slingos that rebound off of walls. Take on the Pirate in Pirate's Fortune. Slingo Quest has the classic Slingo fun you know and love." Slingo Quest is available for $20 and a free demo is available.
