Boston Acoustics Mid 2007

Home audio specialists Boston Acoustics on Tuesday introduced three individual speaker series for HDTVs and other home theater setups. The high-end Horizon models (pictured) are designed for flexibility and include different sizes of satellites and subwoofers. The system starts at $100 for a pair of simpler HS 40 bookshelf speakers but scales upwards to include the premium HS 460 floor-standing speakers at $400. Owners can also mix and match subwoofers between the 10-inch, 150-watt HPS10 SE ($300) to the 300-watt HPS 12HO ($500). A wireless sub, the 8-inch HPS 8Wi ($400), is available for setups where bass is needed away from the main satellites.

Tighter confines are served by the TVee Model Two, a complement to most flat-panel HDTVs: the 100-watt system adds stereo sound through four mid-range drivers and two high-range tweeters, and bundles a 6-inch wireless subwoofer that can be placed closer to the audience for enhanced effect. The whole unit will sell for $400 and will join the Horizon-series speakers when both ship in September.

Rounding out announcements is the SoundWare mountable system: each two-speaker pair is mountable on walls, railings, or other unusual areas and can be used in some outdoor locations. Designs ship in colors from a conservative black to red but are paintable to blend in with decor or a natural environment. Boston Acoustics sells them today for $100.
