Palm exposes Foleo details

Presenting at this week's LinuxWorld conference, Palm has revealed more details about its Foleo smartphone companion, which should be the company's first product to use its new Linux-based operating system. It uses a 416MHz Intel/Marvell processor, and also has a dedicated graphics processor, the Marathon 2700G. This should improve the speed of the graphical interface. In terms of wireless support, the Foleo handles WEP, WPA and 802.1x Enterprise security configurations, but does not have software for Bluetooth file transfers, instead turning over the responsibility to third parties.

Storage meanwhile comes in the form of 128MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM, half of the latter being devoted to the OS and included applications. For expansion beyond stock memory, users will be able to insert CF cards up to 4GB in size, and SD cards as big as 2GB; some LinuxWorld participants report that SDHC cards work on an unofficial level. For serious work or backup purposes, flash sticks and backup drives using FAT16 or FAT32 can be mounted automatically via USB.

The Foleo should ready to ship within the next few weeks, as developers who attended a Palm seminar at LinuxWorld were able to receive a Foleo in retail packaging. [via Brighthand]
