'My iTunes' tracks tastes

Apple has quietly deployed My iTunes, a series of Flash-based web widgets designed to track a user's preferences. Unlike those from sites such as Last.fm, it does not track songs actually played, but rather items like a person's most recently bought music and videos, as well as the most purchased artists in general. Another category lists music and videos that a user has given four- or five-star reviews. The widgets can also be displayed in three different sizes and five different shades, allowing them to better fit into site designs.

Setting up the widget involves first signing into the iTunes Store, and then clicking on the Enable My iTunes button to display customization options and the feed URLs to copy. Once the proper code is inserted into a website, it will display and update automatically.

    iWeb Web Widget?

It's a little odd that Apple didn't include this as one of the built-in Web Widgets in iWeb '08. But I guess you can copy-paste it anyways.

I found that Widgetbox has the My iTunes widgets as well: http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/my-itunes They seem to let you change the widget style afterwards and add it easily to popular places. They also have another widget you can create off your playlists as iMixes: http://www.widgetbox.com/tag/mixits/ Pretty cool stuff.

    No Workie

I installed the widget on my blog. Doesn't seem to work. It appeared to work in the preview on Apples Publish to the web site but when I put the widget on my blog, it doesn't show any artist names. Which kinda sucks.

The widget now works. Looks pretty cool too. A lot better than the last.fm offering in my opinion.
