LifeShaker; 'world' tracks
In brief: LifeShaker attempts to change up to-do list programs, SmartSound introduces more video soundtracks, and MacPractice keeps up to current standards. Funky Cloud has released the first public beta of LifeShaker, an atypical approach to to-do list programs. Rather than display items in a normal list or tree format, nine goals are presented in a grid, which can be "shaken" to bring new goals to the fore. Goals can in turn be broken into steps, but the program will only display the next available step in the grid, in an attempt to make tasks less intimidating. The beta is free, but expires on September 6th.
New Strata Series soundtracks
SmartSound has introduced World Cinema, the latest in its Strata Series of soundtracks intended to be used with Sonicfire Pro library software. The 10 new pieces cover variety of tempos, and are broken into eight layers each, allowing customization for specific applications. All are generally meant for video editors, giving them access to background music for exotic locales. World Cinema is a license-free, 48KHz disc that costs $100.
MacPractice upgrades database standard
MacPractice, a maker of clinical and management programs for medical professionals, has announced that all of its programs are being upgraded to MySQL 5. The latest version of MySQL is said to offer several benefits, including views, triggers, stored routines and procedures, and improved software performance. The upgrade is being offered with all new MacPractice purchases, and should be supplied to earlier MacPractice customers as well.
