Movies, TV shows imminent for iTunes UK?

iTunes UK videos soon?
Sources within Apple are claiming that the company is finally set to offer video downloads through the UK iTunes Store. While Americans can currently download TV shows for about $2 an episode, or movies starting at $10, videos have been conspicuously absent from other iTunes Stores around the world, even those in English-speaking countries. The Apple leak reports that this will be remedied within two weeks, as UK videos are essentially ready for sale, waiting only for Apple to make them visible within the iTunes software. No specific movies or TV shows have been suggested as launch titles.
Ars Technica writes that the last suggestion of international video sales came in April, when Apple Europe VP Pascal Cagni told the French paper Les Echos that the European continent would have movies by the end of the year.

No Doubt! : I can't believe we've waited this long, and who knows how much longer.
I guess we should get used to the idea of waiting. I mean, when's the iPhone coming? Although, I know 2 people with one, but aren't using it as a phone.
Maybe a Christmas 2008 present.

I'll bet the delay has everything to do with CRTC and Canadian network negotiations. They'll want their cut as they pay the US networks for exclusive rights to broadcast shows.
As for the iPhone, it's surely Rogers needing to do the work for visual voice mail and convincing them that $150/month for 25MB of data is not acceptable to their customers.

for only 25 MB?? I just checked my "usage" pane... Got my iPhone the first day, have been surfing a bit but not as much as on my Mac and it says I've d/l'd 426MB and uploaded 35.8MB; that's only SIX WEEKS.
Grief, I'd owe Rogers almost TWO THOUSAND per month at that rate. eeeek, 60 bucks sounds realllllly cheap now.

BBC should use it

We should petition the BBC to dump their silly Windows-only iPlayer stuff and jump on the iTunes bandwagon. Allegedly, their reason for going down the route of creating their own software with MS codecs is that other platforms don't have DRM for video. As soon as we get the ITMS over here, that's no longer a valid argument.

Yeah, but Apple doesn't license their codecs for Fairplay. The player they have now allows for free viewing as a stream. Switching to the iTMS would require you to pay $$ (sorry, but I'm too lazy to dig up the pounds symbol) for the broadcasts, and you'd have to download them.

53rd state?

Not to quibble, but I think you mean 51st state. There are 52 weeks in a year, 52 cards in a deck, but until D.C. and Puerto Rico are granted statehood, there remain just 50 states in the union.

I soooo hope that this is correct.
Its been murder watching all the cool shows being added to the US ITMS.
Now we just need the iPhone OR a widescreen iPod with a touchscreen.

Yeah, but most would consider DC the '51st state', and Puerto Rico the 52nd, so Canada is next in line after that. Although, let's be serious, the Maritime provinces would be first, followed by the other half of Canada. Quebec won't be coming (even if they'd want to come, we don't want those French speakers!)
