iLife, iWork education prices increased

Apple has raised educational pricing on the iLife and iWork suites with the introduction of the '08 versions. Previously priced at $49 each, the titles are now priced at $71 each -- only $8 off the normal prices of $79 each.

"iShirt" ships

    iWork download only

You can still get it for $49.00 if you use the iWork trial and buy your serial number online.

    No educational discount

The discounts have been less and less of late. Soon I expect to pay a dollar less and still have to use my student id.

Funny I went to my schools page and they only want $39 for either iLife 08 or iWork 08. U of Detroit-Mercy, Detroit.

    lipservice

Apple's discounts have always been little more than lipservice to the idea of educational pricing. And it's not like their gross margins don't make ample provision for far more generous reductions. Compare with Adobe who provide staggering educational discounts or, in a hardware context, those provided by Dell that average a minimum of 10%. It looks an awful lot like Apple starting to repeat the mistakes of the past, this time with Steve at the helm rather than not. Curious!

"Apple's discounts have always been little more than lipservice to the idea of educational pricing"

I'm not sure that is at all true, Apple was always one of the most aggressive companies in the area of education al pricing - that's why so many colleges had lots of MacPluses (which hooked a whole generation of mac users who have propagated the usage through good and bad) compared to just about everywhere else.

I suspect they are reducing the discounts due to the number of people who find a "friend" who is doing "night-classes" to go and buy them stuff just for the discount.

But yes it is sad if they don't realise that this is probably the best PR money that they could possibly spend

    Bullshit

Why should you get a discount at all? Get a job, save up and then buy it just like a real adult. sheesh.
