Commodore C200

Recently revived PC brand Commodore today published details about its new C200 portable media player. Smaller than the Gravel in Pocket, the new device still keeps Wi-Fi for direct downloads, Internet TV, and social networking elements. Foreign movies additionally display on-cue subtitles in SRT or SUB format if the movie supports them; video playback is also unusually broad with DivX, MPEG-2, and XviD joining the more familiar MPEG-4 and WMV. The OLED helps extend movie playback to two hours in spite of the small size.

Unlimited subscriptions to music or video stores are an option for the C200, which also plays everyday MP3, WAV, and WMA tracks as well as most common photo formats. Storage varies from just 512MB to 2GB with the assumption that networking will replace the need for extra storage. Official prices are unknown, but at least one store in Commodore's current Netherlands home is accepting pre-orders for the 2GB version at a price of $172. Official releases in Europe and other areas are expected in the near future.
