2007 winners announced

Adobe has announced the winners of its 2007 Design Achievement Awards. The accolade honors the most talented and promising student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, and computer artists from the world's top educational institutions. More than 2,500 students from 30 countries competed in the annual program. In the Animation category the winner was Axel Broetje of Braunschweig University of Art in Germany for "Fische und Schiffe," an animated silhouette film for children. Broetje writes: "I created all characters, objects and backgrounds in Adobe Illustrator working from basic black geometric elements. After that I imported paths from the characters and objects into Adobe After Effects and Maya. Everything was animated scene after scene in After Effects and Maya."

In the Motion Graphics category the winner was the team of Benjamin Stephan and Lutz Vogel of Augsburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany for a documentary dubbed "Trusted Computing." The designers said "This documentary explains what the term 'trust' has in common with Trusted Computing, where you will meet this so-called technology in the near future. The documentary questions the computer industry’ interpretation of the term 'trust.'"

In the Print Design Multi-Page category the winner was Aaron Kapor of the Art Center College of Design for "Car Color Timeline," Using a timeline system, Kapor visually organized the structure of Art Center's Hillside parking lot in step-by-step panels. The timeline starts with raw data taken from photos and information gathered from each individual car. The data is then broken down into abstract shapes and optical mixing giving the viewer various choices depending on their personal visual preference.
