Toshiba brings out Gigabeat U103 in 24 colors

updated 11:25 am EDT, Tue July 24, 2007

Toshiba Gigabeat U103

In tandem with the American Gigabeat U, Toshiba today also gave its home territory the U103, a new spin on the company's entry flash jukebox. The new model embraces the Japanese philosophy of creating harmony within an environment, Toshiba claims, and is available in an unprecedented 24 different colors; buyers can pick colors rarely seen for any music player, such as aqua, forest green, or tan. In contrast to most players, choosing a different color has no effect on features or prices.

As Toshiba's starting Gigabeat, the device includes most of the abilities of the U200 series such as MP3/WAV/WMA playback and line-in recording; unique to the U103 is an FM transmitter that not only gives a convenient wireless signal for car audio but also lets any other FM-ready player share the Gigabeat's music over the same frequency. The U103 ships in just a single 1GB capacity for $115 and ship within the next two weeks. A US counterpart is unlikely with the 2GB U202 already priced below $100. [via Akihabara]
