Amp'd Mobile Closure Delay

The full shutdown of Amp'd in the US has been delayed a week, the company quietly revealed today in its Q&A page. Although customer service is still set to have elapsed today, preventing customers from contacting the provider, subscribers now have until July 31st to either carry their phones directly to other providers, such as Sprint or Verizon, and to port their phone numbers regardless of their new carrier.

Amp'd is known to have entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but had said the decision was a restructuring effort to keep pace with high demand and had promised to maintain service to customers. No explanation has yet been given as to why the provider is being forced offline, though the company is known to have outstanding debt to Verizon and had been willing to sell the organization to a potential buyer. Many customers had also reportedly been unable or unwilling to pay the service's monthly subscription fees.

The fate of Amp'd Mobile's recently established Canadian division is unknown.
