Briefly: New MBP adapter, Duke/iPhone solved

WiFi mystery resolved

In brief: Apple has begun shipping a new MagSafe power adapter for the MacBook Pro with the model number MA938LL/A. The new 85W adapter is significantly smaller than the old iteration, appearing physically similar to the 65W adapter included with 13" MacBooks. In early June, Apple debuted a new line of MacBook Pros, some of which include LED-based screens and offer significantly better battery life. The new adapter appears to be compatible with both newer and previously released MacBook Pro models ... Meanwhile, Apple is stating that the Duke University's wireless problem reportedly involving a few Apple iPhones has been resolved. However, according to a NetworkWorld report, neither Apple nor Duke have released any details about the cause of, or solution to the problem. A Duke spokesperson said "We are still trying to get details about this ourselves." Duke IT officials originally claimed that 18,000 requests per second from the built-in 802.11b/g iPhone wireless adapters periodically flood sections of the university's wireless network with MAC address requests, taking down numerous access points simultaneously.

It turns out the problem was caused by both of the campus's Zune owners have a "squirt" fight with each other. The problem corrected itself when the songs they sent each other had a DRM explosion.

Its nice they have a new power brick, and its nice that you have reported it. But is there something 'different' about this brick that we should know about? Like, it won't explode like the old ones, or it'll help you meet chicks, or anything?

Yes, the new power brick is considerably smaller than the old one (more along the lines of the regular MacBook adapter). The old MacBook Pro adapter was considerably larger, so this is a nice improvement.

It's not like MacNN didn't say that. They basically explained that's what is new right in the summary.

Yeah, but are you actually supposed to believe what MacNN writes?

I'm sure you were kidding, but exploding MacBook Pro power adapters? I have not seen these reports. I have seen reports of super-twisted lumpy-squirrely adapter wires, broken mag safe adapter ends, and even magsafe sockets contaminated by ferrous materials, but exploding adaptors? Please, point me to the reports. :P

Duke says "sorry"

Tracy Futhey, Duke’s chief information officer says; "Earlier reports that this was a problem with the iPhone in particular have proved to be inaccurate."

testudo u dumbfsck, it specifically said in the article that the new adapter is substantially smaller than the old adapter. Are you too stupid to fscking read or are you just trying to be an a** on purpose?

BTW, of the six 85W adapters I have here in my house, none of them have exploded or burned. And I know of nobody else who's had that problem. But nice try at making up some FUD for your post-whoring spree. How about shutting the fsck up when you have nothing to say?

Can't you just shoot yourself in the face or something? It would be a true benefit for mankind. And while you're at it shoot your parents too for not aborting you 14 years ago.

Could we not have weird death threats on a discussion about power adapters. Testudo is always a good contributor, and the best way to counter someones point of view is the normal route of humiliation, embarrassment etc. Otherwise it's like those fanatics "bomb bomb usa", or winding people up to do it on suicide support groups- they say in court they didn't really mean it but by then somebody is dead. I'd yawn but if you just let this go then such uncivilised behaviour becomes the norm. Testudo 14? Yawn, grow up.

Where's the death threat?

Testudo likes pissing people off. He had it coming. Yawn just made the mistake of giving him what he's looking for.
