SanDisk Ducati Edition

SanDisk this afternoon introduced its Ducati Edition flash storage, promising some of the fastest data cards ever released. Reinforcing this concept through the red and white colors of the Italian superbike maker, SanDisk says its 8GB CompactFlash and 4GB SDHC cards are fast enough to satisfy even owners of high-end professional cameras; the CF card transfers 5MB per second faster than SanDisk's previous best at 45MB per second, while the SD card is also quick for its format at 20MB per second. The SD card also boasts a trick design that exposes a thin USB connector for plugging the storage into a computer without a card reader.

Also launching on Wednesday is a new USB jump drive themed after Ducati's motorcycles, SanDisk adds. Recalling the main body of a performance bike, the drive transfers at the same 20MB per second of the SD card and includes the minor touch of a taillight on the back of the drive that serves as an activity light. Custom RescuePRO backup software is also included for preserving essential files.

The SD card and USB drive will ship only in 4GB models for $130 and $125 respectively, while the range-topping CompactFlash cards will ship in 4GB ($165) and 8GB ($315) versions. All storage formats will be available in August at both traditional electronics and camera stores, as well as at Ducati's own dealerships.

    Ducati style

Ducati is fast becoming a designer name, to be seen wearing even if you don't ride any motorcycle at all.

When in Italy earlier this year I picked up a smokin' Ducati backpack for 50 euros, which I thought was cheap. Not only does it look hot, it is incredibly well-built and useful. I use it to tote my camera gear, including a somewhat heavy tripod.

I would have expected to pay 100 for this thing... however I wouldn't buy a Ducati SD card... a little too inconspicuous consumption!

Are they ultra-quick because they're desmodromic?
