Pioneer Kuro Details

Pioneer today marked the official launch of its Kuro high-end plasma sets with full details. Rather than emphasize sheer resolution, the 42- and 50-inch Kuro and Elite Kuro screens stress image quality alone; each panel features some of the deepest blacks ever seen on flat-panel TVs, Pioneer boasts. All screens are ready for sources that can exploit this fact courtesy of four HDMI 1.3 deep color ports, fine-tuned image customization, and a 3:3 pulldown conversion that wipes out the judder effects seen with non-native movie and TV frame rates.

Every 42-inch model features a wide-pixel, 1024x768 display, while 50-inch versions receive a 720p-native 1365x768 image. Elite models add explicit support for ISFccc professional color calibration as well as a Home Media Gallery streaming playback feature for MPEG-1/2 and WMV video, AAC/MP3/WMA audio, and most standard image formats.

Although Pioneer doesn't publicly list prices, the company has previously said that all 42- and 50-inch Kuros should be available now at prices of $2,700 and $3,500 for regular models (PDP-4280HD and PDP-5080HD) and Elite models selling for $3,200 and $4,500 at identical sizes (PRO-950HD and PRO-1150HD). 1080p models in 50-inch and 60-inch forms are expected by September.
