LapWorks unveils cooler Futura notebook stand

LapWorks this afternoon released the Laptop Desk Futura. Its design is made to work both as a solid surface for a user's lap and also as a desktop stand; unfolding the unit creates a large surface, while locking it into one of five partly-folded angles creates an elevated position useful for a desk or a table. Careful study of earlier stands has also led to several changes that help create space underneath the notebook and the stand that ensure even large widescreen notebooks are cooled properly.

Personalization is also coming through the Futura, the company says. While the stock model ships in gray like many other stands, buyers will soon have the choice of individual colors painted by hand that can match an individual notebook or the user's personal preferences. Prices for the customized versions haven't been revealed but will demand a premium over the normal model.

LapWorks estimates the portable desk will support most notebooks that can fit its 21-inch-wide workspace and is shipping the Futura now for $30.
