JiWire updates Wi-Fi guide for iPhone

updated 02:50 pm EDT, Tue July 10, 2007

JiWire iPhone Wi-Fi Finder

JiWire, an advertising network that targets mobile broadband, says it has released a new version of its Wi-Fi Finder guide that is optimized for the Apple iPhone. Both the iPhone and regular guides list 150,000 Wi-Fi networks, public and private, in 135 countries; for convenience, users can also get maps, phone numbers and driving directions. Like similar applications, the iPhone guide uses a simplified interface in keeping with the device's overall shape and aesthetics.

Guide visitors pick their city, state, country and zip code, and can quickly filter the list to only highlight free hotspots. Buttons allow users to dial corresponding numbers or access Google Maps.

Wi-Fi access is critical for many iPhone users -- while the product does have cellular EDGE broadband, it is widely considered too slow for the web browsing the iPhone is capable of.
