Minox announces six-, seven-megapixel compacts

updated 03:30 pm EDT, Fri July 6, 2007

New Minox compact cameras

The German manufacturer Minox has announced two new compact cameras. The most unusual of the two is the 6033 WP (right), a six-megapixel model encased in extremely tough housing. Beyond being resistant to impact damage, it is also sealed against dust, sand and salt, and is waterproof to a depth of 33 feet. Scene options include an Underwater mode, and it holds 2GB of photos on an SD card, or 16MB internally. Power comes from two AA batteries; it should ship soon to Germany for 229 ($311).

The 7022 is a relatively conventional seven-megapixel model, but with some signifcant aspects. Immediately noticeable is the three-inch LCD, occupying nearly all of the camera's back. The camera also has 4x optical zoom with electronic stabilization, and has an ISO sensitivity range that runs from 50 to 1600. Memory comes in the form of 32MB of internal storage, or SDHC cards ranging between 4 and 32GB. No pricing or release dates have been published.

    Really made by Minox?

The 6033 Looks identical to the Vivitar Vivicam 6200W & the Reef Master SL 320.

I wonder who really makes this camera and who's just putting their name on it?
