Postal now $10

The controversial game Postal from Running with Scissors is now available as a Universal Binary, download priced at $10. The game storyline: After coming home from work to find his house repossessed, the player-character, known as Postal Dude, decides that everyone is out to get him and goes... well... postal. He figures that everyone in town has been infected with something that makes them all psychopathic killers. The goal in each of the 16 levels is to off a given percentage of the "hostiles" (that is, cops, soldiers with missile launchers, rednecks with hunting rifles, etc.) without getting killed yourself. The developer sats "Pretty simple, really. There are no magic power-ups, no special abilities - just you, your arsenal, and the occasional Kevlar vest or first-aid kit." Postal requires Mac OS X 10.2.8.

    Agree about that

    I am all for freedom of speech and artistic expression, so I feel free to say that this game is disturbing. The idea is to kill innocent people, cops, etc.

    O well. Welcome to America.

    Welcome to America?

    First, this game was released around '98/'99 and hardly compares to the depravity of the GTA series. I think that maybe people could take a joke better before, well, you know.

    As for it being entertainment - would it be okay if the other "people" were aliens? criminals? What would make it okay? The game is harmless button pushing, and if you see it as more, you may be the one with the problem.

    I didn't grow up to blow up spaceships by playing Lunar Lander and Space Invaders.

    Ignorance is bliss

    @dynsight,

    The idea of the game is NOT to kill innocent people, cops, etc. You've obviously been misled by all the inaccurate press coverage. Have you even played the game? There is absolutely no requirement whatsoever to kill innocent people or cops in order to progress through the game. Nor does the game reward you for doing so. If you choose to kill innocent people, that's entirely up to you, but it isn't the objective. If anything, Postal was a very refreshing, realistic portrayal of violence and it's consequences, when most games showed all the violence and none of the consequences of it. It pisses me off how this game has been portrayed by the media and opinionated people who believe everything they read and never bother to check it out for themselves.

    This game was a h*** of a lot of fun in it's day. I particularly liked setting the marching band on fire. Sure, it didn't get me any points or help me finish the level, but damn was it funny! FIARRRRRRRRE!

    Now lockhartt, you can feel free to criticize me for what I consider entertainment. :-P
