FontAgent Pro Server 2.0
Insider Softare today released FontAgent Pro Server 2.0 (site not updated), offering professional font management with integrated diagnostics and repair functionality. The software aims to offer administrators consistency and control over font use by providing designers with access to only those fonts that are designated for specific users, groups, and projects. The latest release includes an advanced multi-threated architecture that takes full advantage of Apple's Intel-based Macs, as well as multi-core Mac systems which results in a five- to ten-fold increase in font-server speed and scalability, according to Insider Software. FontAgent Pro Server 2.0 is priced at $1,700 per server, with each user requiring a licensed version of FontAgent Pro ($130 per seat). The server software requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later.
New license manager, smarter updates
FontAgent Pro Server 2 stores purchase and license information for purchased fonts, enabling organizations to manage and re-order fonts with ease. The Server also tracks license usage and sends warnings to administrators if license limitations are exceeded.
The new FontAgent Pro Server performs smaller incremental updates of font libraries on both clients and servers, enabling server-client font synchronization for less network bandwidth usage.
Improved administration, security
The updated release of FontAgent Pro Server features a more efficient transport layer that uses open-standard XML and TCP/IP to provide configuration and maintenance benefits. The new communications stack also allows administrators to automate disk-image distribution of FontAgent Pro software to client machines across large networks, as well as the use of custom ports for heightened security.
